Effective July 25, 2026
Mercer Flanagan ("we," "us") is a CPA firm located at 1509 Homestead Avenue, Frederick, MD 21702. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit mercerflanagan.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain language, because that's how we do everything.
When you contact us through this website — a contact form, a consultation request, an email, or a phone call — we collect the information you choose to share: typically your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you tell us about your situation. We use it to respond to you, schedule consultations, and provide the services you ask about. We do not sell this information, and we do not add you to marketing lists you didn't ask for.
Like most websites, this site uses cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors use it. We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, which collect information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and how you arrived at our site. This helps us see which pages are useful and how to improve the site. Google's handling of this data is described in Google's privacy policy. You can limit or block cookies through your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on — the site will still work fine.
Clients exchange documents with us through a secure portal operated by TaxDome, a third-party platform built for accounting firms. Information you upload there is handled under TaxDome's security practices and privacy policy in addition to our own professional obligations described below.
If you become a client, the information you share with us is protected well beyond this website policy. Federal law — including Internal Revenue Code Section 7216 — and the professional standards governing Maryland CPAs strictly limit how tax return information may be used or disclosed. We do not disclose client information to anyone outside the firm except with your consent or as required or permitted by law. Clients receive our client privacy notice as part of the engagement process.
We don't sell or rent personal information. Period. We share information only with the service providers that make this website and our practice run — such as our website host, Google (analytics), and TaxDome (client portal) — and only as needed for those purposes, or when the law requires it.
We keep website inquiries as long as needed to respond and follow up. Client records are retained according to professional standards and legal record-keeping requirements that apply to CPA firms.
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, including the secure portal for client documents. No website or transmission method is completely secure, though — so if you have particularly sensitive documents, we recommend the client portal rather than email.
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Our site links to other websites — articles, tools, government resources, and our social media pages. Their privacy practices are their own; this policy covers only mercerflanagan.com.
You can ask us what contact information we have from your website inquiries, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — just reach out. You can opt out of any email from us at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law; contact us and we'll do our best to help.
If we change this policy, we'll post the updated version here with a new effective date.
